How to Design the Perfect Theatre Room for your Custom Home
A theatre room at home is a great way to relax and enjoy movies, TV shows, and your favorite sports teams on game day. However, if you’re building a custom home, there are some things to consider when designing the perfect theatre room to fit your needs and space. Here are several tips on how to do just that.
1) Size and shape of the room
The size and shape of your theatre room at home will dictate what kind of screen and seating you can have. You can go for a bigger screen and more comfortable seating if you have a large, open space. If you have a smaller room, you may want to consider a projector screen or a smaller television.
2) Choose the proper seating
There are three main types of home cinema seating: straight-back, recliner, and beanbag. Straight-back chairs offer the most support and tend to be the least comfortable; however, they take up the least space. Recliner chairs provide more comfort but can take up more space; beanbag chairs are by far the most comfortable but also take up the most area.
4) Consider your screen size
The size of your screen is essential for viewing distance and picture quality. Ideally, you want to sit between eight and ten feet from your screen for optimal viewing distance; any closer than that, the picture quality degrades. Therefore, you may need a smaller screen (around 50 inches) to achieve this ideal viewing distance in a small room. Conversely, some companies offer curved TVs, which make images appear more prominent when viewed from close distances. This is due to their curve wrapping around the viewer’s eye line instead of a flat image on a traditional TV.
5) Utilize floor space
If possible, try to use as much of the room’s floor space as possible for seating by placing couches and recliners against walls instead of in the middle. This will help create an intimate setting while still maximizing seating capacity.
6) Plan for storage
Even if you don’t plan on using your home cinema for gaming or other activities outside of watching movies and television shows, it’s important to have plenty of storage for snacks, drinks, blankets, etc. A great way to do this is by incorporating cabinets into your design or mounting shelves on walls near where popcorn will be consumed!
7) Lighting is key
Lighting is essential in a theatre room because you want to be able to see the screen. However, you also don’t want outside light to ruin your movie experience. Blackout curtains or shades can help with this.
